ALESSANDRA SPRANZI: LES YEUX LES OEUFS LES JEUX

curated by Cecilia Canziani and Ilaria Gianni

3 dicembre 2022 – 28 febbraio 2023

IUNO is pleased to inaugurate within its spaces les yeux les oeufs les jeux, Alessandra Spranzi's first solo exhibition in Rome and the third exhibition of the program investigating the term "selvatico" (wild) from different perspectives.

Alessandra Spranzi uses photography and other media as a way of looking at and reinventing the world: "To collect, approach, put together, bring together, is a way to reorganize, or surprise, vision and thought, to rethink the enigmatic nature of the photographic image that continually questions us," writes the artist. Even when using collage or photographing found images, she enlarges them, isolates a detail, moves within the limits—or rather the possibilities—of the photographic. If everything is already contained in reality, our task is to restore to it the ability to amaze and surprise us through a gesture, even minimal, such as that of looking.

A tablecloth held by a chair, a plate repaired with wire, a cedar held in one's hands—these are small miracles: the world, with its flow, pauses for a moment. In this suspended atmosphere, it is then possible to feel that restrained energy through which objects communicate, the air becomes charged with electricity, the weight ceases to exert its power, and thought is transmitted without words. At the center of this constellation of images is the figure of the teenager. Like all creatures in becoming, they are enigmatic and magical: not yet tamed. Capable of wonder, they still retain for a little while longer their wild part.

For the finissage, Alessandra Spranzi has decided to reconfigure the space by introducing new works and replacing the previous ones, in a composition that confirms, and at the same time renews, the themes, atmospheres, and images of the original project: from the figure of the teenager to the idea of suspension, or modification, which affects time as well as objects.

In the new exhibition arrangement, Stefano Zacchi, a performer, will execute a series of balance exercises with objects, and there will be a presentation of Tecnica senza vocabolario (a+mbookstore edizioni, 2023), the new publication by Alessandra Spranzi.

Like the book, the exhibition and the performance also seem to adopt exercise as a tool for understanding, a method of exploration that does not entail conclusions but proceeds through trials, experiments, and interpretive possibilities.
