COMMISSION #16 – LOLA GIFFARD-BOUVIER
Lola Giffard-Bouvier’s IUNO (Paris, 1995) is in constant transformation: her personality is multiple and cannot be reduced to a single aspect. She is Juno Moneta, the admonisher, she who advises the people of Rome from the temple dedicated to her on the Capitoline Hill; Juno Lucina, the goddess who protects women in childbirth and brings newborns into the light; Juno Sospita, the propitious one, venerated above all in the city of Lanuvio. And as we turn the pages of the small book created by the artist, we encounter her in all the other forms she has embodied through time. For Lola Giffard-Bouvier, the book is a true medium: it allows her to let the line evolve and transform, constructing a visual narrative. In this case, each portrait of Juno is accompanied by the representation of one of her attributes, as if each page were one side of the same coin. All the drawings are crossed by a single point — an ideal eye connecting the many facets of the goddess.

Lola Giffard-Bouvier graduated in typography from ENSAV La Cambre (Brussels). In 2021, upon moving to Rome, she founded Beauroma Books, a publishing house where she designs, prints, and publishes artists’ books. The result is a catalogue of publications born from encounters with writers and artists. There is no fixed editorial plan—rather, an open and fluid path full of variables and possibilities. Throughout her career, she has developed collaborations and worked with various institutions and projects, including the art publisher NERO / NOT (as graphic designer), NABA (as lecturer in the Comics & Visual Storytelling course), the American Academy in Rome (visual identity for several exhibitions), and Scomodo (art direction for CLAIM magazine). Her most recent exhibitions include: Culotto, curated by Rossana Calbi, at Rhizome, Rome (April 2025); and TAM TAM TEVERE 2, as part of the collective Brush Panthers, Rome (July 2025).
