COMMISSION #4 – GIULIA CRISPIANI
For the autumnal equinox IUNO explores the symbolic power of language. Giulia Crispiani (Ancona, 1986) composed a text inspired by the mythology of the Roman goddess as bearer of life and fertility.
Evoking ancient theatre, IUNONES alternates the voice of a celebrant and a choir which, in Latin verses, assimilates the divinity to a genius loci. As every place has a genius loci, everybody has a Iuno, a sort of personal divinity who becomes the tutelary deity of fertility and of its generative power.
In the words of Giulia Crispiani, Jun o is a sidereal interlocutor who, like the moon, conditions natural cycles to transform, renew and multiply. The autumnal equinox and the new moon become a moment of celebration: a ritual that, in the darkness of an eclipse, favors the growth of a being into another being, a bud, a new life.
