LAB | SARA BASTA: ABITARE
21 aprile – 26 maggio 2022
This workshop, conceived for IUNO STUDIO, is a form of temporary co-habitation that aims at modifying domestic space by adapting it to the size of the children who will participate. Each meeting is conceived as an autonomous nucleus but part of a unique project.
The meetings will be divided into thematic cycles and will deepen:
• The use of the line as a first pictorial gesture
• Knowledge of space through the experience of the body used as a measure
• The relationship with the other co-inhabitants of the space realized through portraits
• The construction of a small temporary residence
First cycle:
Relationship exercises. The line that touches. What comes from gesture and contact. I observe the other and represent him.
Second cycle:
Starting from the body to measure space. The first gesture that carries me out of myself. The line marks the space.
Third cycle:
Transforming the space to bring it to the size of my body. The House. I build my shelter. The line on the fabric.
Fourth cycle:
Observation of the environment. What's outside my hut. The line creates the stars.

The workshop is dedicated to primary school children aged between 7 and 9 years.
All the materials used for the laboratory are provided by IUNO and are non-toxic.

Sara Basta lives and works in Rome. Her works arise from collective research and the creation of small temporary communities between people who share narratives and dialogue through a common practice. She collaborates with the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she teaches History and Models for Art Therapy and where she has carried out several workshops involving students and groups of people from different fields in a research on living. In 2020, she participated in the European Magic Carpets project, invited by the Italian partner Latitudo Art Project with the care of Benedetta Carpi De Resmini and Giulia Pardini. The project involved a group of women from the Trullo neighborhood in Rome. The workshop lasted a few months, ending with the creation of a video and a performance.
