SARA BASTA: TESORO CARISSIMO

Tesoro carissimo, Sara Basta's solo exhibition is inspired by an exceptional although imaginary correspondence between the artist and Virginia Woolf.
Two letters ideally addressed to the British writer serve as a starting point of a story about friendship, an ambivalent feeling, both joyful and painful, unfolding in the exhibition space through paintings, sound and video installations, documentary material
Displayed on the marble table which characterises IUNO, the documentation includes small paintings and embroideries made by Basta and found photographs that compose a fictitious biography and the origin of this relationship.
All around, large tablecloths and fabric offcuts reproduce some of the images evoked in the texts: a quivering jelly, a walnut, some rotting fruits, a bowl and a hand holding water.
Four are, instead, the hands that weave an equivalent number of red ropes framed in the video made in collaboration with Mariana Ferratto, a work that contextualises the female voices replying to questions by the artists on the meaning of friendship and its political value.
Darsi tempoDarsi tempo (Taking time for ), a sentence embroidered on the background of an Edenic landscape, ideally concludes the exhibition, acknowledging the premise of any relationship and the solution for any potential conflict.

As part of the exhibition IUNO organises due incontri dedicati alla relazione tra amicizia e politica, in cui interverranno Lara Conte, docente di Storia dell’arte contemporanea all’Università Roma Tre, e il collettivo The Glorious Mothers.
