LAB | ANDREA MARTINUCCI: GLOSSARIO A TEMPO
Glossario a tempo is a workshop created to deepen some reflections on the idea of temporality developed by Andrea Martinucci in the exhibition 5 secondi, with the aim of constructing an ideal glossary of the show. Participants were asked to define, within a specific time frame and without any aid, a series of terms associated with the themes and subjects explored and represented by the artist. As in dictionaries, each word, in addition to its definition, had to be accompanied by examples contextualizing its use: through this descriptive exercise, participants thus produced a personal translation of the exhibition, its objects, and the themes illustrated within it. To define each term, the participants were given a time interval inversely proportional to its complexity, in order to encourage alternative descriptions to the canonical ones. Through this limitation, the exercise fostered contractions and expansions of thought, metaphorically replicating techniques such as slow motion and acceleration, typical of cinematic language. Finally, participants were invited to add a word that would expand the glossary initially proposed, rendering it even more uncertain and in continuous transformation.
Andrea Martinucci (b. 1991, Rome, IT) is a visual artist who lives and works between Milan and Rome. His research follows a multidisciplinary approach, moving between fiction and theory. The artist uses painting as his primary medium, which extends through writing and moving images. His work has been exhibited in public and private institutions such as Triennale (Milan), Fondazione Baruchello (Rome), MACRO (Rome), Palazzo Reale (Milan), Tang Contemporary Art (Hong Kong), Aldea – Center for Contemporary Art and Technology (Bergen), IUNO (Rome), FuturDome (Milan), Palazzo delle Esposizioni (Rome), ZETA Contemporary Art Center (Tirana), Mattatoio (Rome), Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Villa Croce (Genoa), and Fondazione Pastificio Cerere (Rome). In 2020 he was the winner of Cantica21. Italian Contemporary Art Everywhere, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Turbomondi (Melodia)a video installation destined for the Public Collection of the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, Rome. He has participated in several projects, including: Una Boccata D’arte 2024a project by Fondazione Elpis, in collaboration with Galleria Continua and Threes Production; Tonight we are young – New Italian Art, Triennale (Milan); Fenomeno Pasquarosa, La Fondazione – Fondazione Nicola Del Roscio (Rome); MANIFesta – Iniziative di II, MACRO (Rome); Rereading the Archive, Fondazione ICA (Milan).
